The Baby Food Diet was created by Tracy Anderson, a popular celebrity trainer. The premise of the diet is to eat 14 jars of prepared baby food in place of your regular diet. There aren't any real instructions as to which kinds of baby foods to choose, or any prescription for exercise or water intake.

The Benefits of the Diet
Because baby food is devoid of fillers, preservatives and additives, it is relatively healthy food. Additionally, it is also low in fat, sodium and calories, so you can count on not having to worry about the nutrition of the food you are eating. If you follow the diet completely, by eating 14 jars of baby food, you will be consuming around 1000 calories for the day. Critics of the diet say that regardless of what food you eat, if you only consume 1000 calories a day, you will lose weight.

Baby food jars are small, so eating this way might help you with portion control. Certainly after using this diet for a week or even a few days, you should get used to eating in smaller amounts.

Another possible benefit of this diet is the convenience of the quite portable glass baby food jars. These are easy to stash in your purse and can be taken just about anywhere, if you can bear eating them in public.

Another way to use the Baby Food Diet is to eat baby food for all meals except for dinner, where you can eat a regular, adult meal. One other derivation of the diet is to eat 3 regular adult meals and use baby food to substitute for higher calorie snacks.

The Cons
Eating mashed and pureed vegetables might not be your cup of tea. Certainly, there is the taste issue, as most baby foods are bland. If you can get past that, however, you might still crave chewing, as there is none needed with such soft food.

Certainly, you can lose weight on this diet if you stick to it, but it is likely a fad diet, best done for a few days or a week at most. However, if you are looking to jumpstart your weight loss, this may just be the diet for you.
